TSP800 wide form thermal printers with a number of enhanced features makes them attractive alternatives to dot matrix and laser printers traditionally used in hospitality applications such as lodging establishments, retail stores, and restaurants. The TSP800 has an extremely small footprint as well as utilizes advanced thermal technology that eliminates messy printer or toner cartridges and results in extremely quiet operation.

Because of their thermal design, the TSP800 printers have a fast print speed of 150mm/sec. Print time is further reduced by the TSP800’s logo store capability which also adds professionalism to a receipt. This print speed is complemented by no warm-up time, which means customer check out is dramatically expedited, increasing customer satisfaction. A Raster Driver with reduction feature that allows information from a standard 8.5×11 (inch) page to fit on 4.4-inch receipt is designed into the TSP800.

Epson Announces Huntington National Bank Selects Epson TM-H6000III Multifunction Printers

3000+ Unit Installation In 330+ Branch Offices

Grapevine, TX, Feb. 5, 2008

Epson, a leading supplier of value-added branch banking solutions, today announced that Huntington National Bank, which operates over 600 regional banking offices, has completed the installation of Epson’s TM-H6000III multifunction teller station printers with validation capability in more than 330 branch offices in six states. The three-month rollout began in July and was completed in September 2007.

With its 99.9 percent Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) reading accuracy, the TM-H6000III is a solid choice for financial institutions looking to increase customer throughput at the teller station. The TM-H6000III features drop-in validation which allows clerks and tellers to rapidly validate a variety of forms including checks, deposit slips and batch tickets. In addition, the fast, reliable and quiet printing operations reduces the noise level behind the teller line and allows for a more enjoyable experience for both the teller and the customer.

“We had a very short timeframe to get the new teller stations up and running,” said Teri Petrella, vice president, Central Ohio retail operations manager, Huntington. “From the beginning, the Epson TM-H6000III printer worked well with our existing teller software application. Our tellers were trained and at ease with the printer features within an hour.”

There are an average of six teller workstations per select Huntington branch offices utilizing the Epson TM-H6000III printer. Offices using the teller solution are located across Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

“With time-saving features for speed and accuracy and a small footprint, the Epson TM-H6000III multifunction printer lets tellers spend more time building customer relationships while increasing their productivity,” said Bud Weist, vice president of sales and marketing, Epson System Device Group.

Epson Announces TM-T88IV ReStick Liner-Free Label Printer for Quick Service and Casual Dining Restaurants

Repositionable Labeling Improves Order Accuracy, Increases Customer Satisfaction

Grapevine, TX, April 17, 2008

Epson, a leading supplier of value-added solutions for the point-of-sale (POS) industry, today announced the TM-T88IV ReStick thermal label printer with repositionable liner-free labeling for Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) and casual dining restaurants that want a cost-effective and efficient labeling solution to reduce inaccurate food orders and speed order delivery. The new TM-T88IV ReStick label printer is an enhanced version of Epson’s original TM-T88IV thermal label and receipt printer, the most widely installed printer in the food service industry, with more than four million units installed worldwide.

According to QSR magazine’s 2007 Drive-Thru Consumer Survey, 80 percent of consumers rated order accuracy as more important to a good drive-through experience than any other factor, including speed. With design improvements that ensure uninterrupted performance, the TM-T88IV ReStick printer is the industry’s most reliable solution for repositionable liner-free label printing. Unlike original linerless labels that could not be readily repositioned without tearing, “ReStick” liner-free labels can be placed and repositioned multiple times in the kitchen environment with no messy liners to discard-improving kitchen workflow and speeding order accuracy and delivery time. ReStick labels may be used for a variety of applications, including customer bag labels for validation, exception labels in the food preparation area and for easy identification and product labeling.

“Competitive food service label printers are prone to jamming due to adhesive build-up from the labels,” said Bud Weist, vice president of sales and marketing, Epson System Device Group. “Epson’s extensive product design and quality assurance process combined with new liner-free, repositionable label paper, prevent roller and paper jams, making the TM-T88IV ReStick printer the industry’s most reliable liner-free labeling solution.” Epson liner-free labeling benefits a variety of food service applications including pizza box labels, sandwich wrap labels, specialty cup labels and take-out order labels. In addition, the TM-T88IV ReStick printer prints both labels and receipts, allowing the same printer to be used throughout a restaurant, minimizing service, supplies and training costs.

TM-T88IV ReStick Features

Cost-effective ReStick Liner-free Labels: Epson recommends MAXStick® adhesive label paper for its liner-free label printing solution. With 60 percent more labels per roll than die-cut labels, MAXStick labels are more cost-effective than other linerless labels. Without the need for a coated paper liner, there is no kitchen waste and ReStick labels can be repositioned many times without tearing packaging. MAXStick labels are available in two sizes to accommodate customer needs — 2-1/4 inch or 3-1/8 inch paper widths for receipts and labels.

Flexibility:The TM-T88IV ReStick label printer supports both standard and wireless interfaces, from parallel and serial to Ethernet, 802.11b and BlueTooth®. The printer may be wall-mounted vertically or horizontally.

Easy Integration: The TM-T88IV ReStick printer includes Epson’s exclusive family of Connect-It™ Interface options, making it compatible with all current best-of-breed and component-based systems.

Availability
The TM-T88IV ReStick label printer will be available through Epson’s designated sales and distribution channels in Summer 2008.

Epson Announces the Industry’s First POS Printer with Digital Check Imaging

Epson, a leader in value-added solutions for the Point of Sale (POS) industry, debuted its new TM-H6000II digital check imaging printer at the Retail Systems Show in Chicago today. By integrating digital check imaging technology into a multifunction POS printer, Epson enables retailers to eliminate costly check processing devices at each checkout location, while delivering a dramatic reduction in check processing costs. “The TM-H6000II gives large, multi-lane retailers a major opportunity to reap huge savings,” said Bud Weist, director Epson sales and marketing, Systems Device division. “Major retail and supermarket chains can save millions every year by eliminating manual check handling and storage costs and improving cash flow.”

The TM-H6000II represents a new class of POS printer that combines slip, impact and two-color thermal printing with integrated imaging technology, and it’s the fastest and most compact design in its class. Its measurable and immediate economic benefits provide retailers with an incentive to change the way they accept and process check payments, potentially contributing to the acceptance of electronic check conversion in the retail industry.

The Shortcomings of Check Scanning Technology

Checks represent over 22% of all ertail transactions and pose an average estimated processing cost of 34 cents each for the retailer (Source: FMI Activity-Based Cost Study of Retail Payments, May 2001). Although check scanning technology exists today, it requires a specialized standalone terminal that competes for valuable counter space and requires an additional investment of $400 to $600 per register over the cost of the POS system. In addition, most current check scanning terminals do not capture the complete check image, leaving the retailer with only the MICR code to collect returned checks along with a cumbersome 7-10 day process before funds are received. The delay in receipt of funds results in inefficient cash flow and lower interest income for the retailer.

TransScan Digital Check Imaging

The TM-H6000II’s unique TransScan digital imaging technology seamlessly integrates complete check imaging into retailers’ existing POS systems, now making it possible to cost effectively convert checks to electronic payments at the Point-of-Sale. Upon inserting the check into the printer, TransScan digitizes and transmits the check image to the back office for processing. Total check processing time at checkout is reduced by an estimated 50% (from 51 to 25 seconds on average). Eliminating paper checks results in a tremendous labor savings at both the checkout and the back office. Because transactions are electronically transmitted to clearing houses and banks, returned checks are resubmitted more quickly reducing the total number and high cost of returned checks. Also, funds are typically received in one day or less, dramatically improving cash flow and increasing interest income.

The TM-H6000II reduces the handling and routing costs associated with processing, storing and routing paper checks by an estimated 38% (a reduction in the average check processing cost from 34 to 21 cents), a substantial savings for most mass merchandising and supermarket retailers. And, because the complete check image is captured, retailers gain control of valuable customer contact and purchasing information to drive targeted, personalized marketing programs that increase store revenues.

Enhanced Marketing Power

In addition, the TM-H6000II’s two-color thermal printing capability allows retailers to create high impact receipts and coupons with high-resolution logos and graphics that reinforce their marketing messages long after the customer has left the store. Designed to take advantage of new, lower-cost two-color thermal papers, the TM-H6000II makes two-color thermal printing an affordable option. Its built-in, user-available memory can store bit-mapped images such as company logos, high-end photos, coupons or graphics for receipt or gift certificate printing.

Fast Receipt Printing

The TM-H6000II delivers the fastest thermal receipt printing of any multifunction printer in its class. With a two-color thermal print speed of 17.7 lines per second and a single color print speed of 53 lines per second, the TM-H6000II speeds customers through the checkout line without the processing delay inherent in competitive products. All documents are printed at a crisp, clear 180 dpi. The TM-H6000II’s highly reliable thermal printer has a long head life of 52 million MCBF.

Legacy and Standard Connectivity

With Epson’s complete line of Connect-It interface options, the TM-H6000II is compatible with proprietary sytems as well as today’s best-of-breed solution to ensure the customer’s system investment is protected. The TM-H6000II supports full IBM 4610 native mode emulation, allowing retailers to upgrade printer speed and performance without buying an entirely new POS system. The TM-H6000II also supports RS-232 and bi-directional parallel interfaces as well as RS-485 and USB PlusPower, allowing retailers to select the interface that meets current needs and the ability to upgrade as their needs change.

The TM-H6000II is available through Epson’s designated sales and distribution channels. For more information on the TM-H6000II, visit www.pos.epson.com/checks.

Printing Color Receipts — Thermal Vs. Inkjet Comparison

Two-Color Single Station Thermal Printers with ColorPOS® Technology

Side-by-side Comparison

A side-by-side comparison of inkjet and thermal highlights the variability that can be expected from a point of sale inkjet application. With over 24% of the ink remaining in the cartridges the inkjet image has become illegible while the thermal shows little to no variation from the first receipt printed. What’s more, over time thermal will only need more paper – not replacing/refilling inkjet cartridges plus paper. What do you want your associates doing with their time?

Compare the Consumables

Inkjet cartridges are expensive, often making refilling them the most cost effective option and resulting in a maintenance nightmare. In thermal color printing the coloration is built into the paper removing the need to monitor any fill levels or stock and inkjet cartridges. Essentially the quality of the color thermal image is good for the life of the printer, just load paper and print.

The inkjet receipt came from a cartridge with 24% of the ink remaining. It can be seen that the receipt number 2,920 is faded but legible then only two receipts later the receipt is nearly blank. On the opposing illustration, the thermal was the same – from 1 to 10001 receipts (and beyond) – and the print quality is flawless throughout. Furthermore the images are crisper and brighter than that of the inkjet.

Enhanced Brand Identity

Whether you’re reinforcing an established brand, or trying to establish a new brand, a crisp consistent identity is important to you. When your customer sees your brand name on their printed receipt, wouldn’t you want it to look the same every time? TPG’s two-color thermal printers with ColorPOS® technology meet that requirement. With LogoEZ® you can add – Top Logos, Bottom Logos, Watermarks, and Margin Messages easily – without the cost of changing your POS application.

TPG’s Receipt Master System™ is a suite of software utilities that operate independently of the POS application. (Receipt Master System™ includes ReceiptEZ™, ScheduleEZ™, PCLoader™, Dispatcher™, and PDAXChange™) They allow you to dynamically communicate with your customers through your printed sales receipts. A revolutionary marketing tool, Receipt Master System’s powerful features give you the freedom to move beyond plain receipts.
